So who is the Duke of Hoops?
Me! Who else? But who is me you ask? That’s a good question.
I am a lifelong Duke fan…or fanatic. Cut me open and I bleed Duke blue. I can remember the exact moment Grant Hill passed the ball to Christian Laettner for the shot. I was literally sitting on the edge of my parents couch (I was just 11 at the time). It feel like time stopped. When it finally started again, Laettner had hit the shot, my parents and I were screaming in joy, and somehow I had ended up from the couch to pumping my fist in the air after being caught by my dad in the air. That is one of my most vivid memories period.
I have been fortunate to see Duke play in person (against Davidson in Charlotte, against Maryland in 2003 in the ACC Championship). I was also lucky enough to attend their open practice in 1994 when the Final Four was here in Charlotte. I attended it with my uncle, who can probably be credited (or blamed depending on which family member you talk to) for showing me the light, and my grandfather who was an avid ACC basketball fan.
My favorite player in Duke history will always be Grant Hill. He’s my favorite athlete period (with Cal Ripken Jr. being #2).
When I am not trying to show the rest of the world the error of their ways, I work as Creative Director for a billiards company and I am also an avid photographer. You can check out some of my work at www.summerville-photography.com.
If you have any questions feel free to contact me, unless you’re a Carolina fan…then you can just Go to Hell! (just kidding…maybe).
